Doctrine

The books walk; these pages state. Each article in this section is the standing, citable statement of one determination of Ethical Ontology: compressed from the treatises, stable in vocabulary, and complete enough to be engaged on its own. The full arguments, the trials at length, and the regions remain in the books; what belongs here is the doctrine itself, one concept at a time.

Every entry follows the same discipline: it states what is claimed, what is inherited and from whom, what is not claimed, and how the claim could be false. A doctrine page that cannot say how it fails has no place in this section.

The Who as a Modal Category

Ownness, non-vicariousness, and the difference between someone and something. The programme’s first categorial determination: the who as a way in which being obtains, with a differentia that does not come in degrees.

Being by Proxy

Focality is being by proxy. Where the primary case holds the derivative’s title to count as a being at all, the derivative’s standing is administered elsewhere — a claim about standing rather than about meaning, explanation or causation.
